Facebook Launches Subscribe Button for Following Anyone’s Public Updates

Facebook has launched a Subscribe button that lets you follow the public updates of others, regardless of whether you’re Facebook friends. Don’t chase them to be your friend, still you can see their entire wall and what not. But be careful when you choose the options SUBSCRIBE and FRIENDS or else every information will leak to the people who don’t deserve it. The new subscription options are part of Facebook’s effort to give users more control over their Facebook accounts and their News Feeds. “Facebook has always been working on giving users more control,” said Facebook Product Manager Naomi Gleit. Starting Wednesday, users will begin seeing a Subscribe button alongside the “Message” and “Poke” button on Facebook profiles. The button gives you a way to follow the content others are posting without actually becoming Facebook friends with them. In a lot of ways, it’s like following somebody on Twitter. This button works a bit differently based on whether you’re looking at a friend’s profile. If you subscribe to the profile of somebody who is not your friend, you will get access to his or her public status updates in your News Feed. You can fine tune what type of updates you see. For example, you could subscribe to my Facebook Page and choose only to see my status updates and ignore my game or photo updates.

For example, you could subscribe to my Facebook Page and choose only to see my status updates and ignore my game or photo updates.

If the user is your friend, subscribing gives you the ability to granularly control how much of his or her content enters your stream. If you want to see every post your significant other is posting to Facebook, you can set the Subscribe button to show “All Updates” in your News Feed. On the other hand, if you want to ignore one of your acquaintances unless he gets engaged, then you can select the “Only Important” option under the Subscribe button.

The Subscribe feature is totally optional — you can choose not to subscribe to anybody, and you can choose to turn off the Subscribe button on your profile if you don’t want to gain any subscribers.

Much like Twitter, the total number of people subscribing to your public posts and the number of people you’re subscribed to appear on your profile. This number does not include pending friend requests. Existing friend requests will not turn into subscribers automatically, but Gleit says that going forward anybody who sends you a friend request will automatically be subscribed to your public updates (unless you turn the Subscribe button off).

The Subscribe option makes public Facebook posts more useful, especially if you start gaining an audience. However, it provides yet another layer of complexity on top of an already complex product. It could spur more public sharing a la Twitter, or it could raise more privacy concerns for a social network that has had its share of privacy controversies.

Gujarath riots survivors mocks Modi's fast, calls it a 'natak'

Gujarat riots survivors seems to ridicule CM Narendra Modi's 3 day Sadbhavna fast that has begun from today, Sep 17. The anger amongst the survivors continues as it was years ago, fresh after the carnage. The fast -- about a decade after the riots -- was not the kind of closure they were looking for.

The CM, claimed that he has been sharing the sufferings of the riot victims since years. Also, he defended his government's role in the riots.

One of the survivors, Prof Bandukwala has been disdainful of Modi's fast. He said,"Suddenly he has realised it that for prime ministership he wants to make friend from Muslims and coming out with Sadbhavna fast. I think this is an insult of Muslims, particularly to those who have suffered in riots".

"I would like to invite Narendra Modi to give me one name in Gujarat or in country who can take oath on the name of Allah that Modi was innocent in 2002. It is a political gimmick, natak... and you have to condemn it. If he had spent this energy to bring justice to the riot victims... but he has not done it all," he said.

"It is a mockery, pure insult of Muslims and riot victims and we are feeling very bad. With this, being a chief minister he can gather many Muslims with long beard and cap to the fast spot, but not a single Muslim will identify him as Narendra Modi," Bandukwala added.

The family of Maulvi Hussain Umarji, a local cleric from Godhra who was jailed after being branded as the key conspirator in the Sabarmati Express train carnage, was finally exonerated in February 2011.

For this family also, there was no sense of closure and Modi's fast seemed to be mocking rather than a conciliatory step to heal the riot victims' injured psyche. Son of Maulvi Umarji, Sayeed Umarji, said: "After 10 years, people who took out a gaurav yatra, go on a fast. It's a joke on victims."

Amar Singh gets bail till September 19

Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh was today granted interim bail till September 19 on health grounds by a Delhi court in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam.

The 55-year-old former Samajwadi Party leader was granted interim bail by Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal. Singh was in judicial custody for nine days.

He was arrested on September 6 after he appeared in court in response to its summons for his alleged role in the scam. Singh, who had undergone a kidney transplant, was subsequently sent to AIIMS on September 12 following complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea.

The court granted him bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and a surety of the same amount.

"Amar Singh granted interim bail till September 19," the judge said while directing Singh to submit his passport to the court and not to leave Delhi without its permission.

The court is slated to hear Singh's regular bail plea on September 19.

Congress honeymoon with Trinamool sours

Less than four months after its historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance appears to be in trouble: a section of the State Congress is pressing the national leadership that the party should go it alone in the next panchayat polls.
On Monday, a delegation, consisting of some MLAs, district presidents and a handful of PCC general secretaries, met AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Congress Working Committee member in charge of West Bengal Shakeel Ahmed here to place this demand — as well as complain about poaching on each other's workers and the fight across the State over party offices.
Officially, the Congress is putting on a brave face. Congress president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel said: “Yes, we've received complaints and are trying to sort out the problems through discussions with Trinamool leaders.”
But given that the difference in votes polled by the Congress-Trinamool combine and the Left Front was roughly seven per cent in the polls earlier this year, a split in the alliance's votes could give the Left Front a shot in the arm it so badly needs. The last panchayat polls in the State in 2008 gave the first sign of cracks in the Left citadel.
The State Congress' demand that the party contest local elections separately also comes in the wake of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not just torpedoing the proposed Teesta river waters accord with Bangladesh — she refused to accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his recent visit to that country — but also not attending Saturday's meeting of the National Integration Council here.

Ms. Banerjee's objections to the Teesta accord stemmed less from her concerns for her State and more from her desire to damage the Congress' prospects in north Bengal, where it won a majority of the seats in the Assembly polls, a Congress functionary here told The Hindu,
Not just that, the functionary said, the fact that the agreement was not signed meant a World Bank loan of $1.3 billion to build an irrigation system would not be forthcoming now — it also means the State will not have the capacity to absorb more than 25 per cent of the waters until the system is constructed. The rest of the Teesta's waters flow into Bangladesh and the sea. This point, Congress sources said, is gradually sinking in among voters, especially in north Bengal.

Read as a snub

Given that the Trinamool is a member of the United Progressive Alliance with a presence in the Union Council of Ministers, Ms. Banerjee's no-show at the NIC meeting is being read as a snub to the central leadership. In fact, this has upset the Congress more than her party's objection to the draft of the Communal Violence Bill — that it violated the federal principle.
“Honest merit-based differences on matters of law can arise,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, adding, “they will always be — and have always been — amicably sorted out because they are bona fide differences. To play up these differences and to exaggerate them as political differences is wrong.”

Shreya Saran’s glamour treat for mass!

As the offers are not coming her way, Shreya Saran seems to have taken the glam path to sustain in the competitive industry. In a bid to stablize her fading career, the actress has decided to shed all her inhibitions by going more glamorous than ever.

Grapevine is abuzz with the news that Shreya Saran will be seen in a complete glamorous avatar in upcoming Telugu film Mr Nokia. The actress has recently shot a hot song alongside Manchu Manoj, which according to the production house sources will set the screen on fire. The song was more of a sexy than an item, adds a report.

Sources further say that Shreya Saran’s costume will be a treat for the mass audience. However, Mr Nokia also features Kriti Kharbanda and Sana Khan in the female lead roles. The action movie is written and directed by Anil Krishna.

Salman Khan to fly to US for treatment every two months

While Salman Khan's fans are happy that Sallu has had a successful surgery to rectify his nerve disorder, the actor will apparently have to keep going back to America every two months for continued treatment of his nerve disorder.

Though the surgery was successful, Salman hasn't recovered completely and would need medical treatment every now and then.

This constant absence from his film shooting might cause concerns to the makers of his films. In fact, the shoot of Salman's next film Ek Tha Tiger opposite ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif has already been postponed by a few weeks. The makers now will have to finish off with the schedule before Salman has to fly back to America for his next major surgery in January 2012.

However, not many are likely to complain, considering the stupendous success of his recent blockbuster Bodyguard with Kareena Kapoor.

Though Salman Khan is at the peak of his career, he cannot afford to ignore his health and will have to take small baby leaps. As per sources, Salman Khan will take it slow and will do only individual projects. thanks oneindia.

Mankatha success takes Trisha-Lakshmi Rai on a warpath

The success of Mankatha seems to have gone into the heads of its female stars, as they have taken a warpath to have the upper hand over each other. The controversy broke out after Lakshmi Rai claimed that the director offered her the choice of characters between Ajith Kumar's girlfriend and Sona for which Trisha Krishnan has shot back by saying that the former's statement is 'silly'.

Lakshmi Rai has said that she told Venkat Prabhu to explain about both the characters in which she felt that Sona's character was meaty. It is because she would have to be part of two songs adding to that the actress was to be in the climax of Mankatha. Hence, she opted for the role.

Reacting to her claims, Trisha Krishnan says that she frankly believes that it will be funny for her to answer to Lakshmi Rai's comments. The actress wonders why the Kanchana actress is raising the issue now. Mankatha might have 3-4 heroines but the fact is that Ajith Kumar's love interest can only appear in the publicity materials.

Meanwhile, Venkat Prabhu has something other to say. The filmmaker says that Lakshmi Rai is confused. She was roped in to play the female lead role in the original script, where she was supposed to pair Ashwin. But plans got changed after Ajith Kumar came on-board. The director changed the script after Thala signed the project. As the movie bosses had given an advance to Lakshmi Rai, they decided to retain her in the film by giving Sona's role in Mankatha.

Venkat Prabhu further adds that Trisha Krishnan was roped in to pair up Ajith Kumar. He ends by saying that he feels sad for Lakshmi Rai but expresses his unhappiness for letting her co-stars down

Adding Floating Social Media Sharing Buttons To Blogger

As promised to some of my readers, here’s a tutorial on how to add a Mash able-like floating bar of social media buttons to a Blogger blog. I made it into a widget, so you don’t have to go into your template HTML to install (or remove) them. Just drop the whole code into a HTML/JavaScript gadget.
I have included Facebook Share, Retweet, Stumble, Digg This and Google +1 (plus one) buttons in the bar. Each of them comes with a live counter. The corners of Facebook Share button and counter are rounded to blend with the rest of the buttons (doesn’t work in Internet Explorer, of course). You can add more social bookmarking or sharing buttons later if you wish.
  1. Go To Blogger > Design
  2. Choose a HTML/JavaScript widget
  3. Paste the following code inside it,
<!-- floating page sharers Start karunupdates.com-->

<style type="text/css">

5 Tricks Master Bloggers Use to Make Every Post Popular

Your new post can go bust no matter if you write an exquisite article with all the correct SEO terms and a thoughtful title. Viral posts are created by skilled writers, true. But many other ingredients have to be added for this to happen. Here are the top 5 tricks experienced and successful bloggers use to make every post popular. Use them to make all your hard work count – every time!

Make posts trendy and current

This sounds difficult because the first question in your mind is, ‘But how do I know what’s current?’ Find out what people are mostly looking for today with a simple visit to Google Trends. Click on any of the top trends, and this will take you to a page which gives you all the popular articles written and blogged about it recently. This page also shows you all the terms associated with this word. This instantly provides key phrases and tags for your blog post (simple, right?). You will also see related searches, and the time when the term peaked.
I suggest reading a few of the articles Google trends gives you, which are associated with your chosen term. After you’ve done this, form your personal opinion and write your own original take on the matter to share some Google’s honey dip.

Your followers and commentators’ posts

People who come to read what you’ve written already like your stuff. You never have to go looking for them. They have your blog roll on their site (maybe you have theirs). They faithfully comment on your posts, subscribe to your blog, and perhaps even share your articles with other people. Visit them regularly to find out what they are writing about. Even if you don’t leave a comment, have a browse to see what your followers’ interests are in terms of their blog posts. This will give you great ideas about topics for your own site. Moreover, your subscribers and followers will be more willing to click on your link when it appears on their blog roll (instead of just glancing at it and moving on) because your article was – in a way – targeted to them.
Doing this will also prompt them to leave good and meaningful comments on your articles. Remember that comments count for Google honey dip when robots are lurking around on the Internet. I’ve seen many search results based on comments on an article – not the piece itself, but comments other people had left on it. Isn’t it great to have your commentators working for your benefit! It’s therefore a good idea to reciprocate when you know someone adds your site to their blog roll. This way you can see what they’re saying from the comfort of your own home page. And, you get all your subscribers to click on your post instead of just half of them.

Twitter trends

Sign into your twitter account even if you don’t tweet every day. It gives you an idea of what people are talking about, now – this minute. You don’t need to spend much time there if you have little time to spare. A quick look on the trending page will show you all you need to know.
The reason this is useful is because twitter trends are hardly ever the same as Google trends. You see, this will give you ideas about what’s hot in the social networking scene. This of course, means that when your article arrives on twitter, it would quickly be added to the host of other pieces on that trending theme. If you get into the discussion you could even share your piece as your version of events. Master bloggers know just which discussions to plant themselves in. Before the end of the day, your article could be picked up by hundreds of people involved in that particular trending discussion.

Amazon top-sellers review

Visit the Amazon site regularly to see their current top sale items. It’s no good going for things that were popular last week. You need the current popularity of today’s tide to help you wash your way to the shore brilliantly. Find the best sellers in your particular niche (this works because people attracted to your site want to read about the things they’re interested in). Once you’ve decided on an item, write a review on it.
You can base this review on personal experience or a collation of the reviews others have left. Make sure you tell your readers what your review is based on. If it’s not personal, don’t lie about this. Many reviewers write reviews based on the public opinion. You’ll have to read both negative and positive feedback and perhaps record how many were in favour and against. This will give you an idea of how popular or well-used a particular item is. Your readers don’t only want to know that 100% of consumers liked a product. They also want to understand why others didn’t like it and the reasons they gave.
Present them with an unbiased review so they can make an informed decision. This is what your job is as a blogger!

Give your posts the best send-off

Well, now you’ve done all the above and your posts are the best they can be. Don’t just sit back and relax. Give your babies the best possible start in life by submitting them to the major search engines: Google, Bing and Yahoo. Yes, they’re supposed to be added automatically, but if you have a small site there’s a chance they could be missed.
Once you’ve done that, ping your post and submit your links to your favourite social networking sites.
Now you’ve done all you can do. The rest will all be done automatically. Watch your posts soar and be taken up with the current tide!

Sep. 9 with Rajiv in the murder of the family to stay on hunger strike

Family members of the 15 persons, who lost their lives when Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, have decided to stage a fast on September 9, the date which was earlier fixed to hang the convicts, demanding justice and condemning the resolution, adopted by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, to commute the death sentence of Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan.

The fast will start at 9.30 am and go on till 5.30 pm. Javid Iqbal, son of slain police officer T K S Mohammad Iqbal, who was the Superintendent of Police of then West Chengalpattu district (Kanchee puram) said, “Today the public and all political parties are rallying around and campaigning for the commutation of death sentence, calling them (accused) as Tamilians.

The 15 innocent victims who died on that spot were also Tamilians. Why is nobody talking about them? Why is there no sympathy for their families who have suffered their loss, for the last 20 years.”

Vidya Balan says locking lips with Emraan was a fun

Actress Vidya Balan has started her career in Bollywood with the movie Parineeta and so far acted in more than 15 Hindi films including some small roles. The Malayali beauty has exposed her glamour in a few of those movies. And her latest flick The Dirty Picture is her boldest ever movie. But Vidya says that her lip-lock with Emraan Hashmi was a fun in director Milan Luthria's flick.

Vidya Balan is playing late Southern siren Silk Smitha in the film The Dirty Picture. It is very high on bold scenes, but she was never uncomfortable while enacting those scenes. "I have never enjoyed being a woman more than I did while shooting for 'The Dirty Picture'. I wasn't uncomfortable doing bold scenes because I knew I was in trusted hands," Vidya told the Mid-Day.

The Dirty Picture features Tusshar Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi and
Naseeruddin Shah alongside Vidya Balan. She has already acted with Naseeruddin Shah in the movie Ishqiya, which was also high on glam quotient. Talking about him, Vidya says, "I have worked with Naseer before but this time it was easier...I was less nervous this time."

However, Vidya
Balan is working with Bollywood's serial kisser Emraan in the film The Dirty Picture. She had to lock her lips with the actor and she was wondering about it. Talking about Emraan, Vidya says, "I was wondering how it would be with Emraan, but it was fun."
